What is sodium hypochlorite?
Sodium hypochlorite is NaOCl dissolved in water; in Indian plants it is simply called hypo. Dosed into water, it forms hypochlorous acid, which kills bacteria and viruses and leaves a free chlorine residual in the pipeline. Strength is stated as available chlorine, and ours is 10–12%. Heat and sunlight pull that figure down over time, which is why the solution keeps for 3–6 months and must be stored cool and dark.
